Driving suspended gets Carmi man picked up

CARMI, Ill. - It seems like suspended licenses and those driving on them are on the rise, as we've seen in previous reports out of Mt. Carmel, Flora and Herrin.

Now, Carmi seems to have developed just such an issue, and while there's only one incident from Carmi PD to report, driving suspended is it.

This occurred yesterday (Monday, March 4) when at 7:50 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle traveling on Illinois Route 1 at the Walmart on the southwest side of town.

The vehicle, being driven by Brian Mareing, 61, of Carmi, was stopped for expired registration. However, upon examination of Mareing's documents, it was discovered that he was driving without a valid license, as well as without insurance.

Mareing was taken into custody on those two infractions and, because the No Valid License is actually a misdemeanor, he had to post bond to secure his release.
