CARBONDALE—The person wanted in connection with a shooting on Jackson Street last night (Wednesday, July 31) in Carbondale has been arrested.
One Ronald E. Sanders, Jr., 23, of Murphysboro most recently, was arrested in Marion at some point in time today (August 1).
The shooting, which occurred around 9 p.m., left a 38-year-old man seriously injured with a single gunshot wound to the head. He was transferred to a hospital in St. Louis for treatment late last night, while Memorial Hospital of Carbondale was placed on lockdown due to a crowd on a parking lot, apparently threatening violence.
The victim’s name hasn’t been released; he is still in St. Louis receiving medical care.. He was apparently shot while in a crowd. The shooting was described as a drive-by, and authorities are declining to say whether the man was targeted or if it was a random shooting. However, they are asking for the public’s help.
