WHITE CO., Ill. - A Carmi man charged last year with using property in the commission of a meth crime is off to Illinois Department of Corrections over it.
Ordinarily, Eric F. Brand, 38, is in the hotseat for being a violent offender, as you can read about in this article from this past September.
However, in March of last year, Brand was arrested and charged with two counts of meth possession and a count of Using a Vehicle or Property in the Commission of a Meth Crime. He pled to the Using crime in exchange for the possessions to be dismissed, and while he was placed on probation in August of 2018, he couldn't stay out of trouble.
In a hearing yesterday, Wednesday, February 27, Brand's errant ways caught up with him once again, and he was sentenced to four years in IDOC on the Class 2 felony Use crime, which is to be followed by two years of parole.
Brand owes $1,618 in fines and fees in this particular case, none of which have been paid.
White County State's Attorney Denton Aud handled the case for the state, while Brian Shinkle defended Brand. T. Scott Webb was the presiding judge in the sentencing hearing.
