CARMI, Ill. - A man whose history is showing a number of addresses, including Carrier Mills in Saline County as well as a driver's license showing South Chicago, is in custody today over an 8-year-old traffic ticket.

Melissa Hiland

Along with 30-year-old Anthony M. Durbin was arrested one Melissa A. Hiland, 29, showing an address of Hazel Crest, Illinois; and all of this was because a Carmi city cop early this morning made contact with their vehicle while it was parked at Burrell Woods in Carmi.

And apparently, new Saline County State's Attorney Molly Kasiar s intent on collecting fines and fees that are languishing in the files, as Durbin's arrest was based on an outstanding warrant on a traffic ticket he picked up in Saline in 2010.

Carmi police reports indicate that the officer made contact with a vehicle at the campground at Burrell Woods at 1:07 a.m. this morning, Tuesday, February 26.

Reports state that during the contact, an open alcohol container was discovered in the vehicle. It was also discovered that the occupant of the passenger seat - Durbin - had an active arrest warrant out of Saline County.

He was arrested on the warrant, and police said that further investigation lead to the arrest of Hiland for DUI, as she was in the driver's seat and the vehicle doesn't have to be running for that to occur.

Durbin's traffic ticket, which he picked up in late December 2010, was for operating uninsured. He got court supervision, then failed to pay anything on the agreed-to amounts on the ticket: $605.80.

Both remained behind bars as of this afternoon at the White County Jail in Carmi.
