MARION CO., Ill. - There's no mention of the weather in this wreck report out of Marion County, so it's fairly safe to assume that there was another reason for a driver to have lost control of his or her car on Highway 51 earlier today.
As it was, loss of control is exactly what happened, and failure to reduce speed ticket has been noted as the cause, this after the teen driver caused a two-vehicle accident in the process.
Illinois State Police in District 12 report that the accident occurred at 3:39 p.m. today, Friday, February 15.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a blue 1992 Oldsmobile, being driven by a 16-year-old (the report does not indicate male or female) from Patoka, was traveling southbound just south of Red Stripe Road in Marion County. A 2014 GMC Acadia being driven by Shelia Towler, 35 of Sandoval, was traveling northbound just north or Brink Road.
The Olds lost control and skidded sideways into the northbound lane, striking the GMC in the passenger side door.
The teen was transported by LifeStar Ambulance Service to St. Mary's Centralia Hospital. Towler was transported by Sandoval Fire/Ambulance to St. Mary's as well.
The teen was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
