MARION CO., Ill. - A couple of foreign truckers probably haven't experienced the intensely-swinging weather elements of the Midwest long enough to know how to drive in it if this morning's crash in Marion County is any indication.
Illinois State Police said the three-vehicle collision occurred this morning (Sunday, February 10) at 6:48 a.m. on Interstate 57 in Marion County.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a tan 2014 Freightliner tractor being driven by Mohamed Ahmed, 34 of Columbus, Ohio, was traveling 57 northbound at milepost 107. With Ahmed was a passenger, Mohammad Faqiri, 34, of Houston, Texas.
Ahmed observed traffic up ahead braking and he attempted to slow down; however, his truck jackknifed, coming to a rest in the middle of both northbound lanes of I-57.
A 2018 Dodg Ram being driven by Charles Yates, 42, of Plainview, Ark., was following behind Ahmed and came to a stop on the right shoulder. A white 2017 Volvo tractor being driven by Firooz Faseh, 32 of Houston, Texas, was also traveling northbound behind the Freightliner and Dodge Ram, failed to reduce its speed, and struck both the Freightliner and the Dodge.
Faseh and Faqiri were transported by ambulance to St. Mary's Centralia Hospital. No citations have been issued.
