PALESTINE, Ill. - Palestine's popular watering hole has been burglarized, and with liquor and cash missing, authorities are seeking the assistance of the public in solving the case.
Palestine Police Chief Jeff Besing said that his department is being assisted by Illinois State Police Crime Scene services regarding the burglary, which occurred sometime late Sunday night, December 16, or early morning yesterday, Monday, Dec. 17, at Saratoga Tavern, located in the 200 block of South Main Street in Palestine.
Stolen was an undetermined amount of assorted liquor and cash.
Also reported on Dec. 17, sometime around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, someone stole a 5-foot grapevine Christmas tree with lights from the steps leading to the porch of a residence in the 400 block of W. Grand Prairie Street.
thAnd then sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning (16th-17), person(s) unknown spray-painted a pentagram and "666" on the lighted sign on the corner of Jackson and Franklin streets as well as damaged the lighted Christmas trees on this lot.
