WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - Williamson County State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti announced Monday that on Friday, November 30, 2018, Gage M. McKnight, 22, of Hurst, was sentenced by a Williamson County judge to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The case stems from a 2015 charge wherein McKnight was charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, a Class 1 felony. On August 24, 2015, McKnight discharged a firearm at a Herrin building. He was arrested and later pled guilty to the charge. McKnight was then sentenced by a judge to probation in June of this year.
McKnight was found to be in violation of his probation by testing positive for drug use, and a second sentencing hearing was held on November 30, where McKnight was then sentenced to five years in DOC.
“We are thankful for the judge’s prison sentence on this defendant," Zanotti said. "I thank all law enforcement agencies involved for their help in sending this dangerous person to prison.”
