CARTERVILLE, Ill. - Whether it's a lack of civics classes in the public school system or the fact that there are no more institutions for people with behavioral/mental problems, the bottom line is that seemingly reckless people are among us in droves these days...and one of them has been arrested by the feds for it.
Federal authorities advise that Jura L. Perkins, 56 of Carterville, has been arrested after allegedly making numerous phone calls to Illinois' two senators, Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, many of those calls containing vile, vulgar speech or outright alleged death threats.
Court documents for the federal case indicate that an initial filing was made on October 24, in which calls were outlined by an agent with the FBI. In this filing, a probable cause affidavit showed that on or about May 28 of this year, a voicemail message from Perkins was reported to the feds. It stated "Unfortunately the communist is my Senator that I'm just so sickened today as we honor the fallen that I have a communist piece of sh!t as a ...Do not enjoy this day. I would be very happy if you died today actually. Go to hell, communist pig." The documents don't show whether this was a voicemail left for Durbin or Duckworth; however, context suggests it was likely Durbin. When authorities traced the call back and Carterville police were contacted, they tracked down Perkins and questioned her, and she admitted she'd made the call. Apparently, nothing was done about it then.
On or about July 27, staff for the second senator (from context, being Duckworth) contacted federal law enforcement regarding harassing calls from Perkins, documents state. One voicemail addressed Duckworth as "a stupid b!tch from Thailand" and repeated the phrase "F^*k you, communist pig." Other voicemails were reported on that day. Then on July 30, additional calls from Perkins were described by Duckworth's staff as being "very volatile and racist" and were "getting quite out of hand and very offensive to our staff," the staff opting to send a cease and desist letter to Perkins.
On August 1, however, the staff for Durbin reported to the feds that Perkins had visited his Carbondale office and had attempted to make entry, at which point they, too, sent a cease and desist letter to Perkins.
She showed up again the next day, exhibiting behavior that was "becoming increasingly erratic," as described by Durbin's staff, prompting them to determine to "go ahead with the cease and desist letter" on August 3.
On Aug. 6, Duckworth's office reported additional "disturbing phone calls left on the answering machine in Springfield by Perkins over the weekend, and advised the feds that the US Postal System had tried to deliver the cease and desist letter twice without success.
Additional calls/voicemails came in on August 14 and 17. On August 20, Carterville police again tried to contact Perkins, but this time without success. They did succeed two days later, at which time CPD advised her to cease and desist. She told the officer she would do so.
However, on Aug. 23, she called Washington DC for Duckworth.
"She said she is extremely upset that the police told her to cease contacting our office, and said that she will not stop calling us even if the police follow up again." She called that office five times on Aug. 27, and the Carbondale office twice, "becoming increasingly disturbing in her messages," reported a staffer, who asked, "I am wondering how far this needs to go before we can make this stop?"
Perkins, the feds reported, continued to call in mid-October. Regarding one voicemail from Springfield, staffers for Duckworth stated "These are getting more and more violent. The attached voicemail is threatening and concerning." The feds reported this: "22 f^*kn million illegal aliens, you f^*kin c^nt, whore from Thailand. You deserve the firing squad, you despicable f^*kin Thialand c^nt, whore, communist pig. Go to hell." A spreadsheet log of calls received from Perkins to Duckworth's office showed a total of 177 entries, although they reported the spread sheet "did not have the actual total of calls."
Then on or about Oct. 17, Duckworth's staff reported that the voicemails "seemed to threaten (Duckworth's) baby. They are surely getting more aggressive and more threatening."
Excerpts show just that: In calls on Oct. 16 and 17, Perkins is reported to have said "kill the communist baby," "abort the communist baby," and "you deserve to stand in front of a firing squad," along with "racist, sexist and ablest remarks." Another excerpt had Perkins stating "resign you communist whore from Thailand, resign you legless, gutless, communist c^nt from Thailand. F^*k you whore, go to hell you f^*kin commie whore from Thailand. Kill the f^*kin baby communist whore" repeated several times, concluding "go to hell."
On Oct. 19, Duckworth's staff reported 14 additional voicemail messages received from Perkns, all of them along those same lines and so increasingly vulgar, we're not publishing them.
The feds believed these incredibly vile messages constituted crimes, and they recommended charges for Perkins of Repeated Harassing Communications. The complaint was filed Oct. 24; Perkins was arrested on the 25th. Her financial affidavit shows that she is an employee of Southern Illinois University Carbondale in "accounting (civil service.)" It's unclear whether she still has that job.
A grand jury was held on Nov. 6 and returned a true bill of indictment on the charge, bringing the case to the attention of media at that point. However, on Nov. 9, a date for a competency hearing was set for January 3, meaning that she's going to be evaluated for mental issues. Which is the basis of the first paragraph of this article: There's very obviously something wrong with someone who oversteps the bounds of the Constitution which allows for Freedom of Speech and Freedom to Redress Grievances with Government/Officials.
Government officials are a protected class. No matter how abysmal their voting record (like Durbin and Duckworth both have), no matter how insane their platforms and agendas are (like Durbin and Duckworth both have), if you get out of hand with redressing your grievances with them (or their staff...or their voicemails/answering machines [which is just dumb]), that "protected class" thing is going to kick in. The better idea, instead of expressing opposition to horrific policies like abortion for all and becoming a sanctuary state, is to work toward something positive, like enforcing reasonable sex education or as in the case of illegals, enforcing the laws that are on the books. Try supporting the good instead of opposing the bad. The "opposing" forces always take the low road; we see that in Antifa and in most pink-haired pierced androgynous freaks who don't know what they advocate, only that they oppose the Orange Man. Seriously, Jura...if you have a good job, a nice house, drive a car that works, you're already ahead. If you have grievances with government officials, find another way to deal with it.
This, definitely, is not it.
