FLORA, Ill. - Perhaps the best police chief the city of Flora in Clay County has ever had the pleasure of employing is calling it quits.
Chief John Nicholson has announced his retirement, which will be effective December 1 of this year. In a letter dated November 14 and submitted to the mayor and city council, Nicholson advised that he's leaving after having accepted employment in a commend position for another law enforcement agency in Illinois. He did not specify which agency that is.
Having covered Clay County since the inception of Disclosure, we can state with confidence that Flora Police Department is one of the best-run in our 20-county coverage area and has been for a number of years, all of them under Nicholson. It's a sure bet that wherever he's going, he'll be a success, and we wish him all the best.
