WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - An Australian national holed up in Carterville on a reportedly-expired passport for years has reached an outcome in his Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child case dating back two and a half years: Guilty.
Williamson County State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti said today that on November 6, Nathan Scott Farrah-Pugh, aka Nathan King, 46 of Carterville, was found guilty of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child, a Class X felony.
The trial occurred on October 31 and November 1, 2018, and the guilty verdict was rendered on November 6.
The incidents in question occurred between 2015-2016. The victim was six years old at the time. At trial, DNA evidence was offered by the State.
King had no prior criminal history of sexual abuse. King is an Australian citizen here in the U.S. on a Visa. (Editor's note: When he was arrested, it was uncertain whether the visa was valid or if it, like his passport, had expired. It remains unclear whether the accuracy of this has been confirmed.)
King will be sentenced in January. His sentencing range is six to sixty years.
“Cases involving sexual assault of children are some of the worst and heart-wrenching cases we have to prosecute," said Zanotti. "While nothing can undo the terrible crime afflicted upon this young victim, we are very pleased with the guilty verdict, and hope it brings some sense of justice to all involved.”
