MARION, Ill. - There's been a new phone scam reported to Marion Police.
MPD said that the new scam involved a live call (as opposed to a robocall, pre-recorded) from a foreign-sounding male. This male claims that there is "fraudulent activity on your social security number," then asks the recipient to please verify their own social security number for their records.
The number showing on caller ID is 512-553-4624, originating from Austin, Texas. One individual in Marion has reportedly received the same call three times today.
This call is a scam; never give out your personal or banking information to anyone over the phone!
