WILLIAMSON CO.— A Carterville convicted cocaine dealer has been sentenced to prison after admitting to a burglary earlier this year.
Authorities say that on October 25, 2018, Montez Avant, 28 of Carterville, pled guilty to residential burglary, a class 1 felony; resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
In return for his guilty plea Avant was sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections for 12 years.
The burglary and resisting arrest convictions stem from a July 3, 2018 incident where Avant broke into a residence in Carterville, and resisted the police officers’ arrest when they arrived.
The domestic battery conviction stems from a February 26, 2018 incident where Avant punched a household member in the mouth.
Avant has a criminal history, including cases from 2007-2010 where he was convicted of robbery and delivery of cocaine.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and the Carterville Police Department handled the investigation.
