SALINE CO., Ill. - The Saline County Sheriff’s Office participated in another Prescription Drug Take Back Day program on Saturday.
This was the sixteenth round of national events.
In April 2018: 474.5 tons of unused, expired or unwanted prescription medications were dropped off across the country. The total for October 2018 is not in yet, but Saline County took in 116 pounds of medications.
“This is a great event for citizens to participate in, to rid their homes of unused or outdated medications," said Sheriff Ken Clore.
Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic. That's why it was great to see that numerous residents in Saline County took the time to clean out their medicine cabinets and drop off their unused medications.
The drop offs are always anonymous. The next scheduled event will be sometime in April. Sheriff Clore is looking into putting in a permanent drop-off box, so citizens can drop off their medications year-round.
