SALINE CO., Ill. - A young Harrisburg man was killed yesterday in a single-vehicle crash on Route 34 in Saline County.

Illinois State Police report that the accident occurred at 3:54 p.m. yesterday (Sunday, October 28) about a mile north of Harrisburg.

According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, William W. Wasson, 31, was traveling northbound in a blue 1963 Chevrolet pickup at that location when, for unknown reasons, the pickup ran off the roadway to the right.

The vehicle then came back onto the roadway and crossed both lanes of Illinois Route 34. The vehicle ran off the west side of the roadway and struck an embankment. Wasson was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Wasson was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment and was then transported by Air Evac to a regional hospital. Wasson was pronounced deceased later in the evening. Alcohol was a factor in the traffic crash.

ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Saline County Sheriff’s Department, Harrisburg Police Department, Saline County Ambulance and Deaconess Ambulance.
