JACKSON CO., Ill. - The early arrivals this morning at the Southern Illinois Airport in Murphysboro had the right idea...because the venue was being thronged with people by 8 a.m. this morning, Saturday, October 27, 2018.
In an historic event, President Donald Trump is landing in Jackson County this afternoon, having been booted out of the prospect of holding the rally at a different location, Carbondale, a couple of weeks ago; Carbondale city fathers and others were highly obnoxious about their insistence that the president "wasn't welcome" in the city (like they could stop it if they wanted to). But Trump took the high road and apparently decided not to hold the rally in the centralized location of libwhacks in southern Illinois (due in largest part to the presence of the ever-diminishing Southern Illinois University-Carbondale...and if you look carefully at the situation, you'll see exactly why they're "diminishing," in enrollment and credibility alike.)
The libwhacks in Jackson County even put together a 'protest" page on Fecesbook; there were a little over 400 "planning to attend" as of a couple of days ago; the number might be embarrassingly-low still, as we can't seem to find that info on their page:
They're being kept far away from the airport hangar where the president will be speaking, according to our sources on the ground.
Disclosure has this correspondent as a presence; our affiliates, the Edgar County Watchdogs from further upstate, are also present, having obtained White House press credentials.
We've learned that one of the area newspapers, this one from Perry County, was denied credentials. We don't know why; however, if they're a GateHouse or Lee Enterprises affiliate, that might explain things...The Southern Illinoisan (another failing product out of Carbondale) is likely going to get in despite their anti-Trump bias, but that's because they're Lee and Lee is huge.
The huge crowds are very friendly, happy to be present, and there's kind of a "tailgating" mood at the facility; people aren't allowed to take much in, but some have lunch packed, and they're allowed to have phones/cameras to record the event for posterity...which is kind of a big deal for little southern Illinois, actually.
The president is set to speak at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon. We'll have more as it goes along. Be watching.
