FAIRFIELD MAN KILLED IN WHITE COUNTY SINGLE-VEHICLE CRASH

WHITE CO., Ill. - A serious rollover accident earlier today in White County claimed the life of a Fairfield man, with another Fairfield man - the passenger - avoiding injury altogether.

Illinois State Police out of District 19 Carmi worked the 12:54 p.m. crash today (Wednesday, October 24).

According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, the driver of a white 2001 Chevrolet two-axle truck, James R. Pike, 60 of Fairfield, was traveling southbound on US Route 45, south of White County Road 2200N, when he failed to negotiate a curve and
left the west side of the roadway.

The vehicle struck a ditch and then rolled multiple times before coming to rest.

Pike was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Pike was pronounced deceased at the crash scene by the White County Coroner’s Office.

The passenger in the vehicle, Tyler E. Hutcheson, 25, also of Fairfield, refused medical treatment at the crash scene. He was cited for Failure to Wear a Seat Belt.

The White County Sheriff’s Department, White County Coroner’s Office, White County Ambulance Service, Wayne County Ambulance Service, and Rick’s Towing assisted ISP at the crash scene.
