CARMI, Ill. - Standing on street corners isn't necessarily a crime, but a Carmi man found out that if there's an active warrant for your arrest and you've not turned yourself in, don't be standing around in plain sight of a cop.

That's just what happened to Shawn Jones, 36, sporting a reported address on the 600 block of First Street or the 700 block of Sycamore Street in Carmi (depending on which entry in the report you're inclined to believe).

The situation emerged yesterday (Monday, October 22) when at 12:21 p.m., a Carmi police officer observed Jones standing on Sycamore Street near Eighth Street and knew him to be wanted on a Failure to Appear (FTA) warrant.

It appears that the FTA is associated with a Use of Vehicle or Structure/Property to Make Meth conviction, a felony he caught in late June of this year and to which he entered a guilty plea on July 9, as well as misdemeanor Unlawful Display of Title, Certificate or Plate. Jones owes a massive $3,288 in fines and fees, of which he's paid nothing, which might have a lot to do with the urgency of getting him back in front of a judge.

Reports indicate that his bond was $500 cash, which apparently he was able to post, as he's not listed on the jail's website. He was set for a review tomorrow (Oct. 24)  in court.
