WHITE CO., Ill. - A burglary on Stewart Street in Carmi brought out White County authorities in response.
White County Sheriff Doug Maier advises that at approximately 5:19 p.m. yesterday (Thursday, October 11), his deputy George J. Spencer responded to a location on the 1300 block of Stewart Street in reference to a report of a burglary.
Upon arrival Spencer met with Tammy Gaudern, 54, who is the owner of the property. She stated that the burglary had taken place in a residential trailer located on the north side of the property. Gaudern said that at some point in the last month, and unknown subject or subjects had entered the residence by forcing open the rear door of the home.
Spencer observed the interior of the residence and that the place had been ransacked. Gaudern stated she had already gone through the residence and had moved a number of items, stating she was uncertain as to what items may have been taken. The items inside the residence, Gaudern said, belong to her daughter, who is currently incarcerated in the Indiana Department of Corrections.
Gaudern state that when she first entered the residence after the ransacking, she observed blankets had been placed over the windows so that no light would be observed from Gaudern’s residence, which is located directly south of the burglarized trailer. Spencer photographed the interior of the residence.
Gaudern turned over a flashlight to Spencer that she said she’d found near the rear door of the residence, and stated she’d already touched the flashlight before placing it in a plastic bag to turn over to law enforcement. She stated she was certain this flashlight must have been brought by the subject(s) who’d entered the residence. Spencer placed it into evidence and noted, after exiting the residence, that a south-facing window of the residence was open and screen partially pushed out. Gaudern stated that this window had been closed when she was last inside the place.
Reports were made and the investigation is awaiting info from Gaudern about items missing, once that’s determined. If you have any info you can pass along about this crime, feel free to call the White County Sheriff’s Office at 618-382-7149.
