JASPER CO.—A report that a weapon was involved in an incident in Willow Hill that landed one man in the hospital has been clarified by Jasper County Sheriff Ed Francis and by family members of the alleged victim.
Francis advised Disclosure yesterday afternoon (07.17.13) that confusion over a “shooting” evolved from scanner listeners hearing scanner traffic that “one of the drivers had a gun” following a wreck outside Willow Hill. Francis advised that there WAS NO shooting. But the incident out of which it evolved is under investigation.
One man whose car was run off the road in the wreck was taken to a hospital out of the area for treatment of his injuries, which were not severe, but were enough to warrant attention from a facility with more capacity than what the local hospital (in this case, Olney’s) could offer.
The other man involved in the incident has been jailed in the wake of it. Authorities as well as family members of the alleged victim are alluding to the incident being a case of “road rage” but no one has any explanation for what might have prompted it, and in the case of one of the sources last night, we were advised that there was “no reason” for the incident that ran her family member off the road.
