WASHINGTON CO., Ill. - A trucker from Florida sustained major injuries following an interstate collision with a trucker from the city of Marion in Williamson County, this occurring early this morning in Washington County.
Illinois State Police in District 13 worked the wreck that occurred at 6:40 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, September 26.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a 2016 International truck/tractor-semi trailer combination being operated by Kevin Shaw, 51, of Marion, was parked on the right shoulder of Interstate 64 eastbound at milepost 57.5.
A 2005 Volvo truck/tractor-semi trailer combination being operated by Peter Gurdon, 41, of Sarasota, Florida, was traveling 64 eastbound at that location when it drove off the roadway and onto the right shoulder, striking the rear of the trailer being pulled by the International.
Gurdon had to be extricated from the Volvo; both vehicles sustained major damage. Gurdon sustained major injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to a regional hospital; Shaw sustained minor injuries and was transported from the scene via ambulance to a local hospital.
I-64 was reduced to one lane for over 10 hours for the crash investigation and scene cleanup.
Gurdon was cited for Improper Lane Usage.
