Eric Brand

WHITE CO., Ill. - A man claiming to reside in Grayville was discovered to have actually been living in Carmi, and that's a problem for him for a couple of reasons: The first is that he is a registered "violent offender against youth," and the second is that he had a warrant out of Edwards County for - you guessed it - Aggravated Battery of a Child.

And that's not all Eric Brand was wanted for.

The situation emerged last night (Tuesday, September 25) when Brand, 38, showed up to the White County Sheriff's Office in Carmi for a scheduled visitation. One of White deputies, Scott Cantrell, was aware that Brand was wanted on an Edwards County warrant for Failure to Appear (pay or appear) on charges of Aggravated Battery of a Child, Domestic Battery and Unlawful Restraint, this dating back to a 2012 case.

Then, during the process of booking, Cantrell learned via an Illinois Secretary of State response that Brand was a registered Violent Offender Against Youth. Brand's registered address according to SOS was 310 W. Martin St., in Grayville; however, Brand told Cantrell that he was living at 817 N. Fourth St. in Carmi.

Since that's a violation of the registry (whereupon it appears that the FTA'd case in question was the one that got him on there), Brand remains locked up today instead of getting to post the $100 cash bond on just the FTA warrant to secure his release.

In another White County Sheriff's Office incident report, at 12:19 a.m. yesterday, Brenda White called the SD to report a Burglary. Cantrell was the responding officer, and he traveled to a residence on the 300 block of Pumphrey Street to speak to her. White said she had come home from work at about 12:15 a.m. and found that her 32-inch flat screen TV was missing.

She further discovered that someone had taken the screen out of the window frame on the south side of the house and entered the residence unlawfully. Fortunately, nothing else seemed to be missing.

There was a suspect mentioned in the report, which we won't list the name of here, but White advised authorities that she was going to approach this suspect and "get her TV back no matter what."
