Carbondale is among a network of thousands of communities across the U.S. participating in the second annual National CleanUp Day to keep our outdoors clean
CARBONDALE, Ill. - Every September and March, Keep Carbondale Beautiful and Green Earth team up to tackle the litter in Piles Fork Creek Preserve. This year they are part of something bigger: the second annual National CleanUp Day, which includes hundreds of thousands of Americans in all 50 states working towards the goal of eliminating litter, community by community, across the nation.
National CleanUp Day is now partnering with World CleanUp Day. World CleanUp Day is a global alliance with the Let’s Do It World Foundation that has over 150 countries with diverse cultures and millions of volunteers making this a monumental event.
Volunteers who come out to Attucks Park at 9 am Saturday will pick up litter in the park, clear debris from the creek, or work on the trail. It’s a chance to join with like-minded people and, if they clear out the creek, get their feet (or more) wet. “A key concept of National CleanUp Day is that, if you’re not having fun, you are doing it wrong.” National CleanUp Day co-founders Steve Jewett and Bill Willoughby explained.
National CleanUp Day would not be possible without a network of volunteer groups leading the charge in their local communities. These groups include non-profits, local and Federal government partners including, Keep America Beautiful and the Coastal Conservancy who will be holding cleanups from coast to coast on Saturday, September 15. Also involved will be companies of all sorts, including LinkedIn, Sears, YMCA, and IMG.
