WHITE CO., Ill. - White County Sheriff Doug Maier has issued information about an arrest yesterday in the Enfield area, which comes on the heels of some incidental meth arrests after traffic stops made in Carmi over the past several days...and that in turn prompts many to wonder if there are people rolling to save their own skins.
Maier reports that the incident kicked off yesterday (Wednesday, September 12) when at just after 2 p.m., he and a deputy, Sgt. Craig Poole, observed a female walking west on North Street in Enfield.
When Maier approached her and made contact, she advised that her name was Tina Renee Burton and produced a state ID; through this, dispatch was able to tell Maier that there were no warrants for her.
Burton, 37 of Carmi, advised that she'd walked up to the WADI building to fill out a form for financial assistance with her electric bill. As she was toting a gray-colored bag, Maier asked her if she had anything illegal inside it. She said she did not, and began showing the officers the contents of the bag. Inside a small black bag, the officers observed a white plastic corner baggie containing white chalky powder....which Burton advised was meth, and of course at that point began crying about it.
The officers also observed six and a half small white pills of unknown composition, and a pink pill inside of a bag that was well inside the small black bag. A small set of scales was located in the black bag, as well as two small glass smoking pipes; a small plastic tube was located inside the small plastic bag of white powder.
A field test was performed on the white powder that showed a positive result for meth.
All these items were taken into evidence, as well as a small plastic bag located in Burton's right front pocked that contained cannabis under 2.5 grams.
She was placed under arrest on preliminary charges of Possession of Meth, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
