MARION, Ill. - Marion police officer Rob Kraemer and K9 Zara were recognized at last night's Marion city council meeting for awards they received in the canine - or K9 - Olympics.
Zara is a Belgium Malinois and has been with Officer Kraemer for two and a half years. This is the second year they have sent a dog to the Olympics.
There were over 130 teams from six countries and four continents participating. There were also federal agencies from all over the country, even the Brazilian Army.
They received second place in Control and third place in hard dogs. Marion police now can say they have a world-renowned canine unit.
