HARDIN CO., Ill./UNION CO., Ky—Authorities appear to be covering every possible angle in the case of a missing Marion, Kentucky boy this afternoon.
Hardin County officials have advised Disclosure that the county’s Emergency Services Disaster Agency (ESDA) had called in their cadaver dog to aid in the search, taking the dog across the river at Cave-in-Rock at about 2:30 p.m. today, Monday, July 15, 2013, to search the Kentucky side of the Ohio River.
As well as the dog, approximately 12 boats have been deployed all totaled in an effort to search the river and its banks.
The search has gone on since late yesterday afternoon, when Carter Nall, 3, of Marion, Ky., was determined to be missing from the Kentucky side of the river. Conflicting reports have it that little Carter was last seen on a sandbar at the river at either 3:30 or 4:30 p.m., and is believed to have “gone into the water without a life vest.” Reports are vague as to who was in charge of watching Carter, who last saw him, who he was with at the river site, and other such details. Helicopters were involved in the search yesterday, and Hardin County was brought in last night when a person on the Illinois side of the river heard someone calling for help on the Kentucky side of the river.
Authorities are intensifying the search downriver, having involved Pope County, Illinois support earlier today.
A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at Dam 50 in Crittenden County, Ky., for those interested in attending or in offering up prayers of their own from home.
