MARION CO., Ill. - A single-vehicle crash this afternoon and the subsequent investigation thereof revealed that a driver was traveling on unsafe tires - at least according to Illinois State Police.

ISP said the wreck occurred at 12:45 p.m. today (Friday, August 24).

Preliminary investigative details indicate that a blue 2014 Dodge Challenger being driven by Joseph C. Ricks, 30, of Decatur, was traveling southbound on Interstate 57 at exit 109 six miles south of Salem and not far from 161 when the vehicle hydroplaned on the roadway due to wet pavement and unsafe tires.

The vehicle, ISP said, left the roadway to the right and struck a guardrail.

Ricks and a passenger, Dominique J. Smith, 20, also of Decatur, were transported to Salem Township Hospital by Marion County Ambulance.

Ricks was cited for Unsafe Tires.
