CLINTON CO., Ill. - A two-vehicle collision was caused by distracted driving in the assessment of Illinois State Police, and sent two to the hospital in Centralia, one of them a toddler.
ISP reports that the accident occurred at 12:14 p.m. today (Tuesday, August 21).
Preliminary investigative details, ISP said, indicate that a blue 2005 Chevy Cavalier being driven by Shalonda M. Murphy, 24 of Salem, and a gray 2018 Chevy Colorado, being driven by Kendra C. Foutch, 26, of Centralia, were both traveling east on Illinois Route 161 near Moonglow Road.
Foutch's Colorado was slowing down to turn north on Moonglow Road. Murphy was distracted from inside her Cavalier and struck the rear of Foutch's Colorado.
Both Murphy and a passenger, a three-year-old male also of Salem, were transported to St. Mary's Memorial Hospital in Centralia with unspecified injuries.
Murphy was cited for Following Too Closely.
