MT. CARMEL, Ill. - The lead-up to the weekend for Mt. Carmel Police involved a somewhat tense situation when a complaint about loud music ended with an armed guy being TASERed, then taken into custody.

That happened on Friday, August 3, when Mt. Carmel Police arrested Bradley M. Hughes, 39 of Mt. Carmel, after police responded to a loud music complaint in the 1100 block of Westwood Drive in Mt. Carmel late Friday evening. Police went to the home occupied by Hughes to tell him to turn down his music and when a female subject entered the residence with the police, Hughes met the officer and female with a loaded handgun.  It is then alleged that Hughes pointed the weapon at the responding officer. The officer was able to get to a safe position and request backup. Hughes would eventually lay down his weapon but then resisted arrest. Hughes had to be shot with a TASER. Hughes was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he is being charged with Resisting Arrest and Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer. Hughes is being held pending formal charges. No one was injured during the altercation. Mt. Carmel Police were assisted by the Wabash County Sheriff's Office.

Also on the 3rd, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Amy L. Wheeler, 42 of Mt. Carmel, after she was observed operating a motor vehicle on a suspended driver’s license. Police stopped Wheeler 1100 block of West Third Street where she was arrested. Wheeler was transported to the Wabash County Jail where she would later be released on a $150.00 cash bond.

Mt. Carmel Police then arrested Jaimee L. Dardeen, 27 of Mt. Carmel, on an Edwards County failure to appear warrant. Police observed Dardeen standing outside of a residence in the 300 block of West Tenth Street and knew she was wanted out of Edwards County. Dardeen was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was held pending the posting of $225.00.

Prior to these, on Thursday, Aug. 2, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Charles R. Leonard, 53 of Evansville, after he was stopped by Mt. Carmel Police Department. During the traffic stop it was discovered that Leonard was operating a motor vehicle with a suspended Illinois driver’s license. Leonard was subsequently arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was cited for driving while license is suspended. Leonard was held pending the posting of $150.00 cash bond.
