JACKSON CO., Ill. - The three remaining suspects in the alleged pot trafficking that's already bagged two were in court yesterday, in Jackson County's version of Ten Little Indians.
Brandon Cedric Michael Jones, 26; Jared James Jones, 27; and Alex Bryan Karcher, 24, appeared in court yesterday (August 3, 2018) for motion hearings for their upcoming trial for conspiring to Manufacture/Delivery more than 5,000 grams of Cannabis and Cannabis Trafficking more than 5,000 grams.
Alex Karcher's attorney filed a motion on Thursday and asked that testimony from the the man who sold Christian Reichert the car that was used in the shooting of Carbondale police officer Trey Harris not be allowed. He is saying he didn’t receive a discovery or document of the the interview. Karcher is one of the men from Kansas said to have been in the car that night.
Although Karcher is not on trial for the shooting, Jackson County State's Attorney Mike Carr says the car is definitely intertwined and relevant to this case. There was no document and he had a representative taking notes when the man testified in Reichert's trial that he recognized Karcher a couple of days later when he saw him on television as being the one with Reichert when he sold him the car. When Marshals went to the man's house they only had a picture of Reichert. Reichert admitted in his initial interview after his arrest that indeed Karcher was with him.
Judge Bloodworth says he will rule on this next week.
Although the car was found burned the next day in Carterville, it was traced back to the original owner who lived in Ina. His father sold the car for him. A burnt license plate found at scene, alleged to have been stolen by Reichert and Karcher from a car at Dollar General similar to the one in question, was traced back to a facebook friend of Reichert's, who at first stated in his interview as to what car were they talking about and he hadn’t been to Dollar General. When the interviewers told them they had video, he changed his story to "maybe he had been there once."
Updates on the three suspects will follow; be watching.
