WHITE CO., Ill. - Maybe people don't realize that if there's a warrant for their arrest, they can indeed be taken into custody at the courthouse when they show up for a scheduled hearing in a separate case.
If so, that might be why Cedrick Graham has been sitting at the White County Jail in Carmi for the past several days.
White County Sheriff Doug Maier said that on Monday, July 30, Mr. Graham, 30, of the 400 block of James Avenue in Carmi, was in court on a previously-scheduled hearing.
A warrant on two 2018 felony counts, Aggravated Battery and Criminal Damage to Property, happened to be waiting for Graham, so at just before 10 a.m., he was taken into custody by Court Security Deputy Mike Thomas.
Maier reports that Graham was walked over to the jail for processing, then returned to court with the other inmates and was advised of the charges and his bond, which was set at $5,000 cash.
Graham was then returned to the White County Jail, where he remained as of this afternoon pending posting of bond.
