JACKSON CO., Ill. - It took a Jackson County jury a little over an hour to reach a verdict in the trial of a young man who was accused two summers ago of Cannabis Trafficking...and the jury spoke this afternoon: Guilty on both counts.

Christian Reichert, 26, was charged in June of 2016 with Class 1 felony Manufacturing/Delivery of Cannabis more than 5,000 grams, and Class X felony Cannabis Trafficking more than 5,000 grams. Over the past two years, Jackson County prosecutor Mike Carr has been trying to get Reichert - who was hooked up with the likes of Harrisburg's William Michael (Mikey) Cummins - to take a plea. Reichert refused and opted to take his chances in front of a jury.

That jury was handed the case this afternoon (Monday, July 30) and at about 5 p.m., the verdict was reached: Guilty on both counts.

There's been no word on a sentencing date, nor what Carr might be asking for in terms of sentencing. Reichert has no significant criminal history. It's a pretty sure bet, however, that his attorney will be asking for leniency and will be providing all kinds of mitigating factors as a basis for the request. When we learn more, we'll post.
