CLAY CO., Ill. - A bit of backstory about the car crash that sent two by helicopter to regional hospitals Tuesday has been submitted by Clay County Sheriff Andy Myers.
Myers said that on July 24 at approximately 5:13 p.m., a Clay County Sheriff’s
Deputy was on routine patrol attempting to locate a person of interest in a recent theft case who also had multiple outstanding warrants.
The deputy located the subject, 35-year-old Nicholas R. McCarty of Louisville, as a passenger in a vehicle. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Jamie N. Colclasure of Edgewood, ignored the deputy and began to flee.
The vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection at Kinmundy Road and Bethel Drive and struck a westbound vehicle being driven by Gabe Blair, 43 of Louisville, who was transported by Clay County Ambulance to Clay County Hospital and was later released.
McCarty and Colclasure were both flown from the scene by Air-Evac to separate hospitals for treatment of their injuries. McCarty is currently on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections and currently has outstanding warrants from Clay County for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Possession of Methamphetamine Manufacturing Materials, Effingham County for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Possession of Cannabis, Illinois Department of Corrections for Violation of Parole and new charges pending. McCarty has been released from the hospital and is currently incarcerated in the Clay County Jail.
Colclasure is currently still receiving medical care and remains in the custody of the sheriff for the offense of Aggravated Fleeing to Elude.
