WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - A two-vehicle accident with overturn of one sent three to area hospitals and got one of them cited Tuesday in Carterville.
Illinois State Police in District 13 worked the Tuesday, July 24 accident, which occurred at 1:05 p.m.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a 2016 Ford being driven by Lynda E. Welch, 67 of Marion, was westbound on Illinois Route 13 and ran the stoplight at Division Street in Carterville. A 2016 Subaru being driven by Helen E. Cook, 36 of Murphysboro, was turning left from Division onto Illinois Route 13 eastbound and had entered the intersection on a green light when the Subaru struck the rear end of the Ford, causing the Ford to overturn.
Welch was transported via ambulance to a local hospital with what ISP called non-incapacitating injuries; a passenger in her vehicle, Larry K. Welch, 76, also of Marion, was likewise transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Cook, too, was transported to the unnamed local hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.
Lynda Welch was cited for Failure to Yield at a Stop Intersection and Disobeying a Traffic Control Device.
