EFFINGHAM CO., Ill. - A two-vehicle accident, one of them a semi towing a trailer, happened this morning in Effingham County after a driver fell asleep at the wheel.
Illinois State Police said that the accident happened today (Wednesday, July 18) at 7:22 a.m.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a maroon 2009 Buick being driven by Cole M. Lake, 27, of Salem, was traveling south on Interstate 57 near milepost 150 (the Watson/Mason exit, when Lake fell asleep behind the wheel.
Lake's vehicle struck the rear f a white 2005 Freightliner towing a white 1997 Stoughton trailer, being operated by Florian Risilia, 48, of Chicago.
Lake's vehicle struck the rear of Risilia's in the driving lane, and became stuck under the rear semi-trailer of the truck.
Lake, whom ISP said was wearing his seatbelt, was injured in the ensuing crash, and was transported to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital for minor injuries and was released. He has been cited for Following Too Closely.
