MARION, Ill. - An entire display of baby care items apparently collapsed onto the floor - and two employees - at the Marion Kroger store at about noon today, reports those who were present when the incident occurred.
Our Marion correspondent was turned away from the Kroger store, located at 1704 West DeYoung Street, at about 1:45 p.m. today (Thursday, July 12) when she went to check it out; apparently, Kroger, while a private business which can keep anyone off the property they want to, doesn't understand that when it becomes the scene of a response by taxpayer-supported entities (police, fire, EMS, etc; and we've had it confirmed by police that EMS was indeed called and responded to the scene), it becomes a news story and they're not doing themselves any favors by blowing off the local media.
Which is why there's social media.
Minutes after the collapse of the shelving on the aisle, shoppers in the store were sending out pics, so basically...the news event is covered.
Above and below are the photos, which are publicly available at the pages of those listed, which means they can be used to cover news under the Fair Use Act.
Because our correspondent was advised that there was no one at Kroger to talk to about the incident - and because EMS can't comment on those injured - we were unable to confirm how the two employees said to have been injured were injured, or how they're doing.
It's being reported that the aisle had been undergoing renovations over the past several days, but that, too, is unconfirmed.
When we learn more, we'll post.
