CARMI, Ill. - Switching plates on vehicles (without going through the state, of course) is really a dumb idea…and if you’re toting meth, it’s even dumber.

That’s allegedly what happened Thursday, June 28, when Carmi PD stopped a Ford F150.

The vehicle, being driven by Shawn Jones, 36 of Carmi, was stopped Thursday morning at 10:15 a.m., and had Indiana plates that came back to a Pontiac Grand Prix.

That got Jones arrested for Unlawful Display of License Plate Not Authorized by Law on Such Vehicle.

However, a subsequent search resulted in a broken pipe being found in the driver’s door that field-tested positive for meth.

Holly Miller

The passenger, Holly Miller, 31, of Enfield, was reported to have attempted to remove some clothes from the truck. They were searched, and inside the clothes was located a homemade pipe which tested positive for meth.

Jones was then found to have a meth pipe in his sock.

As if all that weren’t enough, a search of Miller’s purse turned up some items from Walmart with tags still on them…and Miller admitted to one of the items being stolen.

Jones was charged with felony Possession of Meth and misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia to go along with the misdemeanor Unlawful Display of Vehicle License. Miller was charged with felony Possession of Meth and misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Retail Theft.

Both are currently being held at the White County Jail.
