WASHINGTON CO., Ill. - A Freightliner truck was blown over onto its side in last night's severe thunderstorm, this occurring out on Interstate 64 on the western side of the state as the storm moved in.
Illinois State Police in District 13 DuQuoin said the semi incident occurred at 6:41 p.m. last night, Thursday, June 28.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Brian K. Johnson, 65, of Missoula, Montana, was driving a 2019 Freightliner in 5 axle box-van combination westbound on 64 in Washington County at that time. With Johnson was Charles P. Johnson, 65, also of Missoula. ISP said that at the time of the crash, the area was experiencing a strong thunderstorm with heavy winds and rain. The winds were strong enough to blow the Freightliner onto its side. It came to rest across both lanes and had to be removed from the scene by tow.
Both men suffered non-incapacitating injuries and were transported via ambulance to a local hospital.
