WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - A Marion man was injured and taken to a hospital after crashing into a large tree, which downed a power line during the severe storms that raked the area last night.

Illinois State Police in District 13 advised that the single-vehicle crash occurred on Day Road, three-tenths of a mile west of Childers Road in Williamson County last night (Thursday, June 29) at 8:30 p.m.

ISP said that Richard E. Clemmons, Jr., 51, of Marion, was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Day Road where a large tree and power line had fallen across the roadway as a result of the strong thunderstorm in the area just prior to the crash.

The Jeep struck the fallen tree, causing significant damage and forcing its removal by tow truck from the scene.

Clemmons suffered what ISP termed incapacitating injuries, and was transported via ambulance to an unnamed local hospital.
