CUMBERLAND CO., Ill. - An early-morning accident three and a half miles east of Greenup Friday involved two vehicles and resulted in a citation and a transport to a Terre Haute hospital.

Illinois State Police in District 12 Effingham said the crash yesterday (Friday, June 22) happened at 4:32 a.m. in the eastbound lane of Interstate 70 at milepost 122.5.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that a silver 2017 Toyota Corolla with Nevada registration, being driven by Abdullahi Noor, 30, Kansas City, Missouri, and a white 2017 Freightliner truck-tractor with Arizona registration pulling a white 2008 Commodore semi with Oklahoma registration being driven by Cody Fischer, 51, Watertown, SD, were traveling east on Interstate 70 near milepost 122.5 when the Toyota began passing the Freightliner in the passing lane.

The Toyota attempted to re-enter the right lane before it was clear of the Freightliner and struck the front brush guard

of the Freightliner. The Toyota then spun sideways off of the roadway to the right and overturned into the ditch.

Noor exited the vehicle on his own and was transported to the Terre Haute Regional Hospital for treatment.

He was later cited for Improper Passing on the Left.
