FAYETTE CO., Ill. - People who were forgetting how to drive yesterday clogged up Interstate 70, as this wreck in Fayette County shows.

Illinois State Police said the Wednesday, June 20 accident occurred at 3:19 p.m.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that a red 2010 Ford sedan being driven by Kathleen Roach-Burford, 24, of Brownstown, was eastbound on 70 at milepost 64 in Fayette, directly behind a white 2017 Nissan Sentra being driven by Amber Wenthe, 23, of Watson.

All eastbound traffic had slowed due to a large multiple-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of 70. As the Nissan began to slow, the Ford failed to reduce speed and rear-ended the Nissan. Upon impact, the Ford went off the roadway to the right, down the grassy ditch embankment. The Nissan went off the roadway to the left into the grassy center median.

Both Roach-Burford and Wenthe were transported to Fayette County Hospital for treatment. Roach-Burford was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
