CUMBERLAND CO., Ill. - A man from Indianapolis had to be cut out of his vehicle following a crash earlier this morning in Cumberland County.
The single-vehicle crash occurred at 7:44 a.m. this morning, Sunday, June 17, said Illinois State Police, seven miles west of Greenup.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a white 2006 Toyota pickup being driven by Maxwell S. Engel, 61, of Indianapolis, was eastbound on Interstate 70 at milepost 112, when a tire blew out on the vehicle and he lost control.
The truck slid sideways on 70 toward the median, hit the left shoulder and began to overturn. The truck then overturned, coming to rest upside-down on the left shoulder of westbound I-70.
Engel was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated. He was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital via Air Evac for treatment of injuries. Engel was subsequently cited for Improper Lane Usage and Expired Registration.
