FAYETTE CO., Ill. - An arrest has been made in the case of a Canadian truck driver who was crushed when another semi sideswiped his in Fayette County a couple of days ago.
Illinois State Police said that through a follow-up investigation they conducted, a 2016 Volvo truck-tractor/semi-trailer combination was identified as the suspect vehicle that left the scene of a fatal pedestrian crash occurring Tuesday, June 13, along the I-70 eastbound lane at milepost 55.5 in Fayette County.
The suspect vehicle was located in Cambridge, Ohio, one and a half hours east of Columbus, Ohio.
With the assistance of the Guernsey County Sheriff's Department, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the Fayette County (Illinois) State's Attorney's office, the driver, Ray L. Ryan, 60, of Buffalo, Missouri, has been arrested for Failure to Report an Accident Involving Personal Injury or Death.
A source who is close to the investigation advised that Ryan was observed at the T/A truckstop in Effingham for a light repair, and one of the techs that had fixed some broken lights on the trailer had noticed Ryan wiping off blood. The tech believed it to have been from a deer strike, however.
There's no word on any further charges so far; if that occurs, we'll bring it to you.
