CUMBERLAND CO., Ill. - A motorcyclist was transported to Carle Hospital in Champaign after a collision with a turning vehicle that threw him from his bike this afternoon in Cumberland County.
Illinois State Police said the accident occurred on Route 40 at County Road 2100E at 3:04 p.m. today, Sunday, June 3.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a purple 1998 Harley Davidson being operated by Roger East, 58, of Charleston, and a silver 2004 Dodge being driven by Courtney Davis, 18, of Greenup, were both westbound on 40 east of CR 2100E, with the Harley behind the Dodge. The Dodge was turning left onto the county road.
The bike attempted to pass the car in the left lane and struck the Dodge in the driver's side door while the Dodge was turning left.
East was ejected from the motorcycle and was transported to Carle Hospital in Champaign. Davis, along with two passengers, Quinten Jones, 21 of Olney, and a 17-year-old female, no address given, were apparently uninjured.
East was cited for Improper Overtaking on Left, and Operating Uninsured Vehicle.
