Sharp-eyed officer nabs man wanted on Effingham County warrant

PALESTINE, Ill. - Palestine police were on the ball Friday when a sharp-eyed officer spotted a local man he knew to be wanted on an Effingham County warrant and took him into custody.

Palestine Chief of Police Jeff Besing said that on Friday, June 1, 2018 at approximately 9:00 p.m., Palestine Police Officer Brandon Carpenter observed a male subject known to him to be wanted on an Effingham County Body Attachment warrant walk into the Casey's General Store.

Officer Carpenter made contact with and took the male subject (identified as Coltin T. Woods, 22 of Palestine) into custody on the warrant. A search of Woods' person incident to the arrest found Woods to be in possession of suspected cannabis.

Woods was arrested and transported to the Crawford County Jail where he was charged with Unlawful Possession of Cannabis (more than 30 gms), Class A Misdemeanor and served with the Effingham County warrant.

Woods was charged, processed and held pending bond.
