Illinois State Police (ISP) District 19 released information
concerning a two vehicle fatal traffic crash, which occurred in Gallatin
County on Saturday 11/05/11, at approximately 12:30 pm. According to
Illinois State Police District 19. Troopers investigated a traffic crash on
Rt 13 at Mclean Street in Shawneetown, involving a 1994 Mercury and a 2011
Buick SUV.The preliminary traffic crash investigation indicated that the driver of
the 1994 Mercury, a 48-year-old female from Equality (name withheld
pending notification of relatives) was traveling westbound on Rt. 13 and
for an unknown reason swerved into the path of the Eastbound 2011 Buick SUV
and hit it head on. The driver of the 1994 Mercury was pronounced dead at
the scene by Gallatin County Coroner Tony Cox. The driver of the 2011
Buick, 79 year old Billy Head of Shawneetown was transported to a
Evansville Hospital by Air Evac, the passenger in the 2011 Buick, 75 year
old Betty Head of Shawneetown was taken to Harrisburg hospital by
Gallatin County Ambulance for major injuries.Both vehicles sustained major damage and were towed by C&T Towing of
Shawneetown.The accident is still under investigation by an Illinois State Police Crash
Reconstruction Officer.Assisting at the crash scene were Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department,
Shawneetown Police Department, Shawneetown Fire Department and Gallatin
County Ambulance.
