FLORA—Police in and around Flora in Clay County say they are looking for a car that was earlier today (Wednesday, June 5) involved in a hit-and-run accident with a woman on a bicycle.
According to preliminary reports, Colleen Kiger, a disabled person in her late 50s, was riding her bicycle in the vicinity of CVS on North State Street in Flora (north part of town, just off U.S. Highway 50) when a young person driving a late-model white four-door car struck her, knocking her from the bicycle.
The car, which is being described as “shaped like a Buick” (CORRECTED) and was reportedly driven by a young male, then took off, leaving Kiger injured.
She was transported to Clay County Hospital, but because of her disabilities and injuries on top of that, she’s not able to give much detail. The extent of her injuries are unknown except that it’s been described that her neck and her legs are “messed up,” and with her disabilities, she already had trouble with her legs. UPDATE: Colleen was expected to be released earlier this afternoon, so fortunately her injuries weren’t severe.
It’s our understanding that police viewed surveillance tapes from CVS and other businesses in the area in order to get a license plate or more detailed description of the car and the driver, but there weren’t a lot they could ascertain from those vids, as unfortunately, they didn’t cover the street views very well.
Police are asking for anyone who has any information at all about the accident to contact them at 618-662-9111, and advise that the public should be looking for a vehicle that fits the description of the car involved in the accident which may have some front-end damage.
When we get more, we’ll bring it; keep checking back.
