FAIRFIELD MAN – AND PAROLEE – RUNS FROM CARMI TRAFFIC STOP

James H. Earl

James H. Earl

WHITE CO., Ill. - A Fairfield man made a pretty bad decision last night in Carmi after the vehicle he was riding in was the subject of a traffic stop in Carmi...and he opted to bolt instead of staying put.

Nobody's saying why James H. Earl, 40, did what he did...but he's now in a lot more trouble than he likely would have been, had he not.

Carmi Police stopped a vehicle in which Earl was a passenger at the intersection of Rice and Ratcliff streets shortly after 6 p.m. last night (Wednesday, August 3) for reasons not disclosed, but soon learned that Earl was wanted on an IDOC warrant for parole violation. Earl was sentenced to two years out of White in 2012 for Violating an Order of Protection.

Earl is reported to have taken off from the vehicle, and police had to chase him on foot.

They brought him under control, but only after he allegedly resisted.

Therefore, he was taken in on preliminary charges of Resisting a Police Officer and Illegal Transportation of Alcohol by a Passenger (which, in itself, might've been why he bolted).

He's set for an arraignment on September 8.

I’d like to thank Harrisburg commissioner John McPeek for helping me sell papers

John McPeek. Name plate is hidden by the head of a local wannabe who needs to not wear the same shoes in the summer that she wore all winter.

Smartaleck John was a little more jumpy and jittery than usual tonight, probably because he thought he was going to be clever and point out that he was wearing a white shirt instead of his regular pink one. And right at the outset of the meeting, that's what he did. Had I known he was going to do such a thing, I'd have brought my better camera rig instead of my iPhone, and would have moved up a little bit to get a better pic instead of the one you see above.

What in the world is he talking about?

You'll have to read the current issue on stands right now - the August Special Edition 2016, and my column in it - before you'll know. Which is why I'm thanking him for selling papers for me. You can pick up this issue at JD's Gaming on Commercial, or at Discount Food Mart on Main...but hurry, they're running low and we have ALL of them out on the stands right now. If you miss it, you can get the same content online at the e-Edition; here's a link straight to the column if you're already an online member. If not, any of the links will take you to the page where you can get started.

In the meantime, this meeting.

Gads.

It's like some of our city council is slurping up stupid soup.

We'll have full coverage in the next print edition (on stands August 16/17). But in the interim, here's a little bit of helpful information for the council:

  • You shouldn't approve projects you don't have a budget for and have no one who can tell you what the potential cost of them should be; even a rough estimate would be nice, but a projection is actually preferable...you know, for us taxpayers
  • Unless city property is set aside and declared a city park, it's probably a bad idea to have a city-owned RV park. Why? Because when it eventually "pays for itself," who gets the money? A city can't own a profitable business. The Hub Rec Center over in Marion is one example. It's in the hole, and it'll always be in the hole; it was built in a substandard way by people who aren't accountable for their work; and basically...OPM (other peoples' money). It lends to carelessness. It's a very bad example of why an RV park should be put in (over by Accelaquarter Raceway, incidentally. Seriously, Dale...avoid the headache we astute citizens who know you can't legally do this will cause you, go to your buddy Frank Sisk and tell him to pony up the funds to put in the park and be done with it).
  • We can't EVEN believe McPeek took the trouble and time to try and embarrass Sally Wofford for answering a FOIA within a day instead of waiting five. She did nothing wrong; meeting minutes DO NOT HAVE TO BE APPROVED BY THE COUNCIL in order to be released. Period. Call the Municipal League if you don't believe us. Not that we wouldn't know, because we've been doing what we do longer than you've been doing what you do, McPeek.
  • Jonathan Gerike has a point: Everyone else's coverage of the last meeting was woefully inadequate, whereas ours was accurate. We have a tendency to do that. We know you're all trying to save the "local" media some embarrassment...but they're embarrassing themselves by leaving things out. So stop trying to cover for them.

There's more...a LOT more...and we'll have it in the upcoming print edition. This is just a sneak peek, a preview. There are too many hotheads in charge here in Harrisburg...and we the citizens had better start calling them on it, before things get out of control.

THE REST OF THE STORY: Photos of the bust on the playground in Marion

MARION, Ill. - Remember that article we brought you last night about trouble in Butlerville, aka Marion? And all the awful kids on a playground there that got busted Wednesday?

We weren't able to get the pics to you due to cell phone issues (we're having a LOT of trouble with AT&T...I'm sure many of you are familiar with their evil devisings).

We finally obtained the photos this morning...so instead of updating last night's article, which got buried in all of today's news, we're bringing them to you tonight.

marion playground 2

The article was submitted by a Marion correspondent to show you that unfortunately, Marion isn't Mayberry like Bob Butler, the mayor for umpteen-thousand years, wants everyone to think it is.

And until people unbury their heads from dark, dank orifices, things are only going to get worse.

marion playground 3

Until then, at least Marion has some decent city cops (and Williamson County has some decent deputies.)

marion playground 4

At least those ones stand in the way of Marion becoming like Carbondale has...so far.

marion playground 5PNG

So here are the shots. Reread the story, put these pics in your mind, and tell us...are you surprised at what you see here? Are you grateful to have decent cops who don't prompt a violence-filled protest when they go to break up a scene like what was reported yesterday? Or do you think it's eventually going to get here?

MT. CARMEL, Ill. - Here’s your month’s-end police report for the month of July, and month’s-beginning for August, straight from the Mt. Carmel Police Department, and it’s a busy one.

It all starts with July 28, when Mt. Carmel Police arrested Ryan C. King, 20, of Mt. Carmel, in the 600 block of N Cherry Street following a traffic stop. The officer recognized King as a passenger in the vehicle and knew King was wanted on a Wabash County Warrant for Possession of Methamphetamine. King was placed under arrest without incident. Officers also located suspected methamphetamine in a suitcase belonging to King. King was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was issued the warrant as well as a new charge of Possession of Methamphetamine. King was held pending the posting of bond.

Also on the 28th, police arrested Derek A Dorworth, 23, of Mt. Carmel following a traffic stop in the 1400 block of West Third Street. The officer observed a red Chevrolet truck operating without any registration. Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer discovered that the driver, Dorworth, was operating the vehicle on a suspended Illinois driver’s license as well as Operating an Uninsured Vehicle. Dorthworth was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was held pending posting of bond.

On the 29th, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Mario M. Moreno, 26, of Princeton, Ind., following a traffic stop in the 800 block of N. Walnut St. The officer believed Moreno to be operating on a suspended Illinois driver’s license and conducted a traffic stop. The suspension was confirmed and Moreno was taken into custody. Moreno was transported to the Wabash County Jail for Driving While License Suspended and held pending posting of bond.

On July 30, Mt. Carmel Police arrested James N. Kimmel, 45, of Keensburg, for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Police were investigating a dispute in the area of 3rd and Division streets with Kimmel being an involved party. Kimmel had been operating a motorcycle prior to this incident. While the officer investigated the dispute he discovered signs of impairment coming from Kimmel. Following field sobriety testing Kimmel was placed under arrest for DUI. Kimmel was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged and held pending the posting of bond.

On July 31, Mt. Carmel Police arrested three male juveniles following a traffic stop for a traffic violation at 9th and Walnut streets. K-9 Handler Sgt. Steve Perry responded to the scene as well with his K-9 Ace, who alerted to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted and suspected cannabis and drug paraphernalia was located. The three males were placed under arrest and transported to the police department. They were charged and released to their parents.

There were two arrests on August 1: First, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Buck W. Towle Jr, 35, of Mt. Carmel, following a battery complaint at a business in the 300 block of N. Walnut Street. Officers conducted an investigation into the complaint and found evidence that Towle had head-butted the 18 year old male victim. Towle was later located and placed under arrest for Aggravated Battery. Towle was taken to the Wabash County Jail and is being held pending the posting of bond.

And also on the 1st, police arrested Damon J Rutledge, 36, of Mt. Carmel when Rutledge was observed in the 500 block of N Market St. Rutledge was wanted on a Richland County Failure to Appear Warrant. Rutledge was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Wabash County Jail. Rutledge was issued the warrant and was held pending the posting of bond.

PARIS, Ill. (ECWd) – The Edgar County Health Department has provided their report, including photos, on their inspection of B & J Restaurant in Paris, Illinois.

We previously reported on this (B & J’s Restaurant: Customer Complained About Cockroaches, Got Banned From Restaurant) and said we would update it with the actual report of the inspection once it was obtained from the Health Department.

As it turns out, there were 4 complaints between June and July of this year. First was a complaint about proper use of gloves, then live roaches, then gnats and flies, and finally roaches again.

Several people commented on our previous article questioning the truth of the facts presented, and after receiving the Health Department’s inspection report, everything previously reported is proven to be correct, and there are now pictures from the inspection to prove it.

B-and-J-rest-paris-IL

The Health Department did close the restaurant, and the inspection involved more than simply “thermometers and books” as the owner might lead people to believe.

We understand the restaurant has taken steps to fix the problems, which included improper temperatures, freezer burned food, and insects. the last Health Department inspected did not find the same problems – so it is obvious they are trying to fix it and keep it fixed.

MASSIVE BOND SET FOR REICHERT; TRAFFICKING CHARGE FROM JACKSON PENDING

Christian Reichert aka beard boy

Christian Reichert aka beard boy

WILLIAMSON CO./JACKSON CO., Ill. - It would appear that whoever rolled on Christian Reichert the other day knew whereof they spoke.

As it turns out, authorities have confirmed that Reichert will be facing a much more serious charge in neighboring Jackson County than he is in his home county of Williamson...and his bond has been increased to reflect that.

Either yesterday or today in court, Reichert was pronounced held on a $10,000 cash bond (meaning bail is $100,000), this on the Williamson County pot arrest effected the other day after the SWAT team took out in handcuffs his momma, Tina Reichert, (along with a former Akin mine employee, Lonnie Brymer)nin a heavily-armed raid on Virginia Street in Marion.

It's not officially known whether mom rolled on her kid, but early the next morning he was caught with an alleged 5,000 grams (11-plus pounds) of weed and summarily arrested and jailed. However, it's becoming clearer exactly why the overwhelming show of force was used.

This morning, Reichert, 24, appeared in Williamson County Circuit Court, and the court was advised that Jackson County to the west is working on a drug trafficking charge, and that Reichert's cash bond on that warrant is $100,000 (one million bail).

Interestingly, one of his buddies on our Facebook page came to his defense, blaming his plight on the "Chicago" drug dealers...to which we quipped that Amtrak should be blamed (because NO ONE should be held accountable for their crime if they're a Moronnial, apparently).

Moronnial indeed

Moronnial indeed

Anyway, now the bearded wonder is being held on a total of $110,000 cash, something his momma likely can't pony up.

Maybe the Chicago-based gang thugs will.

More as we get it; keep watching.

car crash accident rollover police lights highway

MARION CO., Ill. - A high-speed car crash early this morning outside of Odin has left a driver hospitalized and cited with DUI, with other charges pending as the investigation continues.

Illinois State Police in District 12 said the incident happened this morning (Saturday, August 6, 2016) at 1:12 a.m. on U.S. 50 at Farthing Road just west of Odin.

ISP advised that Eric Maxwell White, 42, of Salem, was traveling westbound on U.S. 50 through Odin at a high rate of speed in a black 2005 Lexus SUV.

White was unable to negotiate the curves on the west side of Odin, and consequently ran the SUV off the roadway to the south, then came back onto the roadway, where White oversteered. This caused the vehicle to leave the roadway to the south again.

The SUV continued through the ditch, sliding out of control until it hit an embankment. At that point the SUV went airborne and landed back in the ditch, overturning several times and finally coming to rest upside down in the ditch just west of Farthing Road.

White was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia by Marion County EMS due to injuries sustained in the crash.

He was later cited for DUI; and ISP said that he may be facing further charges pending outcome of the investigation.

MT. VERNON, Ill. - It appears a female went on some kind of rampage last night at the Mt. Vernon, Illinois, location of Walmart, and it's alleged that she stabbed two children in the process.

Two brief vids, posted by Alexis Woods publicly on her Facebook page, show the aftermath; they're featured here below her account of the situation:

alexis woods

For those phone-challenged among you, her text reads:

People really got to stop doing drugs💯 Me & my family came to Walmart and when we walked in ,there was this woman, probably in her mid twenties, screaming and knocking glass off of the shelves. Me & my dad decided to see what was going on, so she came towards me and him. Me & my dad bolted and she started throwing glass and she bashed a Walmart worker's face in. She grabbed a butcher knife and stabbed a little probably 9 or 10 year old in his back. She stabbed a 3 year old and before the police got to her she stabbed herself. There was blood up and down the isles and glass everywhere.. The world has gone to complete sh*t nowadays. How could you be so messed up to stab a little kid?? Me & my brother was lucky to have our my mom and dad beside us. It upsets me to see people like this. She went after a woman and her baby, like, seriously? There are kids and families in there. When me and my dad went to go check things out, I was lucky to have him with me because she started fast walking towards me and it scared the crap outta me.. How are you just gonna go after some kid? You must be pretty f*cked up to do that. I'm sorry for all the people who were hurt and injured, my prayers are sent to you🙏🏽

Below are the six-second-each vids, there is graphic language and apparently that's blood in the second one.

When we learn more; we'll post. Be watching.

atv accident

JASPER CO., Ill. - Jasper County has become the place for weekend ATV crashes over the past few years.

Over the past several years there've been quite a few, which you can read about herehereherehere, and here, and, like this one, quite a lot of those listed involve alcohol.

This one happened once again early in the morning - 3:12 a.m. - this morning (Sunday, August 7), according to Illinois State Police in District 12 who worked the wreck.

They said that it happened on Jasper County's 1000th Avenue at the intersection of 300th Street, when a dark gray 2013 Can-Am Outlander 1000 ATV was being operated on the roadway by Jeffrey R. Esker, 24, of Teutopolis.

Esker was eastbound on 1000th Ave. and as his ATV approached the intersection, he failed to identify/negotiate the curve in the roadway. Esker executed a hard braking maneuver, which put the vehicle into a skid. The ATV skidded off the south shoulder, struck a stop sign and a ditch/embankment, and then flipped at least once before coming to rest on its top. During the collision, Esker was thrown from the vehicle.

Esker was charged with DUI Alcohol, Driving While License Suspended, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Improper Lane Usage, Disobeying a Stop Sign, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and Reckless Operation of an ATV...after he was airlifted from the scene and flown to Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign.

His condition has not been listed by ISP.

CLAY CO., Ill. - A tragedy befell a beautiful young Clay County family Saturday night, with the death of their only son in the family pool.

Berklee Ryan James Pickens, age 2 19 months (CORRECTED), was at home with his parents, Shaina and Lee Pickens on Blue Mound Road, Flora, when sometime between 7 and 7:30 p.m. last night (Saturday, August 6), he was able to sneak outside of the house, climbed the ladder to the family's above-ground pool, and fell in.

His mother, detecting what had happened, was reportedly injured when she went outside and was scrambling to get to her little boy; it remains unclear at this point whether Shaina, age 30, was injured as she left the house, or as she attempted to enter the pool. The extent of her injuries are unknown as of this report.

Despite all attempts to revive the boy, the time of death was called at Clay County Hospital in Flora at 7:39.

Friends of the bereaved family have organized a GoFundMe page for them in order to raise funds for funeral expenses. Since the page was put up, great progress has been made toward the goal.
