Richland County crash: Two from Bridgeport ejected, driver cited for DUI

RICHLAND CO., Ill. – Three people were injured in a single-vehicle crash last night near Olney that is being attributed to driving under the influence of alcohol.

Illinois State Police in Effingham state that the accident occurred yesterday evening (Saturday, September 28) at 6:47 p.m.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that a red 1990 GMC 1500 Sierra being driven by Dustin J. Kermicle, 31 of Olney, was northbound near 3740 North Cottage Hill Road north of Olney at a high rate of speed. With Kermicle were Mendi L. Williams, 42, and Cody A. Cessna, 31, both of Bridgeport in neighboring Lawrence County.

The truck skidded out of control and ran off the roadway to the left. The rear of the vehicle struck a ditch/embankment and then overturned onto the roadway, coming to final rest facing northbound, overturned on its top.

Kermicle was transported to Carle Richland Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Cessna and Williams were both ejected from the vehicle and were transported to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind., by helicopter. Their conditions were unknown as of today.

Kermicle was cited for DUI-Alcohol, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Failure to Wear a Seatbelt, and Illegal Transportation of Alcohol.

Further charges, ISP said, are pending investigation.
