NATIONAL—We don’t very often have anything to do with “celebrities” and their opinions one way or another on issues that impact us in our day-to-day lives.
But Australian Business Insider had this video featured in an article last year that we discovered today in our news feed and felt that it was appropriate for our area, given that it’ll now be another year before fracking will commence in Illinois in earnest (see below comment about fracking already having taken place)…and we have time to offset that earnest takeoff if we become educated on the issues of the practice.
This is not your father’s fracking….this is not just sand and water injection to push the oil and natural gas out….the fracking we’re talking about trying to regulate (or prevent altogether, called a moratorium) in this state involves “proprietary” (PRIVATE, and thus, PROTECTED from analysis) formulas of chemical cocktails being injected, for whatever reason, into the shale formations in order to drive up the oil and gas for retrieval and make a company from another state a little bit of money. And it’s already happening here. Please, please read that article, and the links, carefully.
Because these formulas are “proprietary,” these private companies cannot be forced to disclose what’s in them; they’re “trade secrets.” So the likelihood of contamination from them—in our aquifers, our wells, our soil, even our air—is very, very high, and your kids or grandparents could get very sick and you may never know what it was that made them that way.
Please contact your representative about opposing fracking. It’s been proven dangerous in other states; it’ll be dangerous here, too.
